Can Japanese citizens or residents buy this pass?
No. The JR Kansai Area Pass is exclusively for non-Japanese nationals entering Japan as a Temporary Visitor. You must present your passport at collection to confirm eligibility.
When does the pass become valid and when does it expire?
Validity begins at 00:00 (midnight) on the first day you select and expires at 23:59 on the final day of your chosen duration.
Can I buy two passes to cover a longer period?
No. Each pass holder may only purchase or exchange one pass per period — overlapping or back-to-back passes for the same dates are not permitted.
Does the pass cover the Shinkansen?
No. Bullet train (Shinkansen) services are excluded. The pass covers local, rapid and special rapid JR trains, plus the Haruka limited express between the airport and Kyoto.
What are the Kyoto City Subway, Keihan and Hankyu vouchers for?
These bonus vouchers, handed to you at collection alongside your JR pass, allow travel on three private rail networks that complement the JR lines — particularly useful for getting around central Kyoto.
